Why Five Marys
A lot of people want to know why our meat is different and what certifications we carry. There is no simple answer to this but in short - we want our customers to know and trust their farmer and we want to be that farmer for their dry-aged beef, pastured pork, grass fed lamb, free range eggs, wildflower honey and any other products that come off this ranch.
We started this operation to provide the finest quality meat possible (for our restaurants at the time, which soon changed gears into direct-to-customers), raised the right way with the highest standards of care for our animals.
WE BELIEVE IN SELLING ONLY THE FINEST MEAT AND THE FINEST MEAT COMES FROM ANIMALS AND LAND THAT ARE WELL CARED FOR.
There are no shortcuts.
WE ARE A SMALL FAMILY RANCH, AND TOGETHER AS A FAMILY WE VIGILANTLY CARE FOR EACH OF OUR ANIMALS.
The six of us as a family, with one ranch hand and some part time help, are out here day in and day out making sure these animals live a beautiful healthy life with only, as we say, one bad day.
OUR BLACK ANGUS CATTLE, NAVAJO CHURRO LAMBS AND GLOUCESTERSHIRE OLD SPOT HERITAGE PIGS SPEND THEIR WHOLE LIVES ON OUR GREEN PASTURES AND HILLS RICH IN MINERALS AND WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE AND FRESH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MOUNTAIN AIR.
We chose these heritage breeds for their flavor, marbling and consistency as well as a slow and natural growth rate so we could have product for our customers all year round.

OUR MEAT IS NEVER TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS OR HORMONES.
If an animal on our ranch needs treatment that requires antibiotics, we humanely administer whatever they need for the best quality of life, but they are taken out of our natural program and we will never sell this meat.
WE ARE ORGANICALLY-MINDED AND GMO FREE WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
We don't believe third party certifications are necessary when our customers know and trust us as their farmers.
OUR BEEF IS FINISHED ON PASTURE GRASS WITH FREE-CHOICE BARLEY RATION.
We believe this leads to a premium product in flavor, marbling and consistency while the cattle still live their entire lives on lush green pasture grasses.
OUR ANIMALS ARE PROCESSED AT A FIRST CLASS USDA PROCESS, CUT AND WRAP FACILITY AND EACH CUT HAS COMPLETE TRACEABILITY TO OUR ANIMALS.
This is important to us as each animal is tracked and each cut of meat we sell traced to one animal that came from our ranch.
OUR GROUND BEEF AND STEAKS ARE ALL DRY AGED FOR 28 DAYS FOR TENDERNESS AND FLAVOR YOU WON'T FIND MANY PLACES OTHER THAN THE PREMIER STEAKHOUSES.
