Meet the Five Marys Ranch Kitties!
Meet the M5 KITITES!!!
We had an orange cat named Penny when we moved to the ranch. She arrived in a carrier and bolted out of there as soon as we opened the door on arrival! But she loved stalking the hay barns for mice and didn’t like being social or having four little girls pick him up (yes he was a male cat named Penny). We still see Penny on rare occasions - mostly at the neighbors barn.
We had another kitty named Doug (short for Douglas MacAthur) - a little grey cat who never grew very big. Doug was a good sport and let the girls dress him up and roll him around in a stroller and never hardly complained a bit. Sadly, Doug met his demise on the road one day. But we remember him fondly!
This year - the mice were worse than usual around the houses… and our restaurant manager’s cat had a litter of five kittens. We talked Brian into letting us bring one home. And then decided one kitty needed a friend so it must be two. And then when we had to pick two from the four left to adopt… we couldn’t leave any of the four behind and brought home all FOUR kittens. One for each little Mary!
The kittens took to ranch life at Five Marys very well. They stayed inside for a bit until they were old enough to venture out - and started stalking and killing mice right away. I was thrilled!
They are VERY, and I mean VERY patient, and let the girls do all sorts of crazy things with them - like dressing them up in my old American Girl doll clothes (Samantha, I’m sorry!) for photo shoots and styling.
MEET KEVIN
Kevin is Francie’s cat and a calm little tabby. He’s the most quiet but has the friendliest personality.
