Five Marys RETREATS!
Spend a weekend on the ranch learning about life on a farm, butchery & basic cuts lessons, cooking inspiration and recipe ideas, craft cocktailing (making and enjoying!), grilling over open fire and secrets of cast iron cooking and family meal planning - hosted by Mary Heffernan at Five Marys Farms.
Stay in “glamping style” accommodations on the ranch at our new campsite under the oak trees with all amenities provided. Enjoy family style meals with an awesome and inspiring group of women, stir up some craft cocktails together while we cook and savor the fruits of our labor and learning. Get inspired with new, easy-to-make lunch and dinner ideas you can take home to your family, then visit the official Five Marys Farm Store in downtown Fort Jones to hand pack a box of Five Marys meals to be delivered to your doorstep. Sure to be a memorable weekend full of learning and ranch life lessons!

Arrival between 1-2pm day one through departure 1-2pm day three
INVESTMENT
$1395 per person, all inclusive (limited number of spaces each session) / $400 deposit to reserve a space, balance will be charged 2 weeks before arrival

DAY ONE
* Arrival and welcome between 1-2pm
* Ranch Tour and Exploration
* Down time to settle into tents
* Workshop: Grilling Methods & Essentials Pantry Shopping List:
- Open fire, gas grill and cast iron - what you can do at home with what you have PLUS how to stock your pantry with the essentials to last all week/season.
* Workshop: Craft Cocktail Creations
- Learn to make the famous M5 Ranch Sidecar and some fun cocktail inspirations to throw together with fresh, healthy ingredients
* Sunset Camp Dinner & Live Music under the stars if we can swing it!
* Fireside Round Table
- Mary shares some thoughts on her book “They Can Do It. What I Learned About Raising Kids by Moving To The Country” on parenting capable, independent, strong children in any environment.
DAY TWO
* Optional Morning Mountain Run up the trails on the ranch with local friend and runner Joy to lead the pack or hike/walk/yoga on the hillside
* Campfire Breakfast and Coffee/tea around the campfire
* Workshop: Canning with Jenny of “The Domestic Wildflower”
-pick our own crop of fresh strawberries at the Berry Patch and turn them into a delicious and easy jam while you learn the basics of canning, safety, acidity, equipment and making shrubs (homemade cocktail and mocktail mixers) to enjoy at lunch!
* Workshop: Slow Cooker & Instant Pot Cooking
- Cooking easy meals in the slow cooker with ingredients to always have on hand, as well as an introduction to the hottest new kitchen appliance - the Instant Pot!
* Hike and/or “Chore” Challenge (losing team does the dinner dishes!)
* Ranch Style Picnic Lunch
* Workshop: Pork Lessons

DAY THREE
* Early morning walk, hike, yoga, sleep in :)

* Ranch chores round up and egg collecting (take home your own hand picked dozen)
* Field Trip and Workshop at Five Marys Farm Store in town (5 miles away)
- How to Implement Your Retreat Cooking Inspiration at home.
- Choose your own cuts of Five Marys meats from our Farm Store for your family and hand pack a box yourself to be shipped to your doorstep on Monday!
- Shopping for Five Marys goodies, spice rubs, sea salt, honeys, tshirts, trucker hats, coffee mugs and hoodies at discounted prices for attendees. $50 store credit for every attendee
* Goodbye lunch and departure - until next time!

Details:
Five Marys Farms is located in Fort Jones, CA about 5.5 hours north of San Francisco, CA and 5.5 hours south of Portland Oregon
Closest Airport is: Medford, Oregon International Airport (60 miles north) or Sacramento Airport (180 miles south) We recommend renting a car to see the local sights while you are here (Mount Shasta, Ashland, Kangaroo Lake, The Pacific Crest Trail, Stewart Springs Mineral Resort) but airport pick ups can be arranged.
Lodging:
Stay in our 16x20 foot bunkhouse style wall tents with twin bed for 6-8 guests per cabin tent OR 16 foot round Shelter Co Meriwether tents with 2 twin beds for 2 guests in each tent. Your own tent can be available for an additional $350 per person. We provide tents/tent cabins and beds (real mattresses!) with cozy linens and fresh towels.
Our new campsite has fully functional bathrooms with flush toilets and a super cool private outdoor shower with hot water and power. We provide towels and washcloths, soap, shampoo, etc.
What to bring:
Boots / closed toed shoes for around the fire at camp
Hiking boots or tennis shoes for walking trails
Warm layers for evenings in the tents
Sunglasses and a hat (M5 hats available for purchase at camp too)
An easy toiletries bag to carry your toothbrush, shower supplies, etc back and forth from tents to bathroom facilities (and maybe flip flops - it’s a short walk)
Clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty!
What not to bring:
Your hairdryer or straight iron! You won’t need it and camp power can’t handle it.
Any other camping supplies - we will provide flash lights, lanterns, pocket knives and everything you need to be comfortable during your stay!
Other Notes:
The ranch has cell service in most areas for Verizon, but Tmobile and AT&T can spotty on the hill. We have great wi-fi at the house and a computer you can use if necessary, don’t worry about bringing one. The tents do not have power in them but outlets are available in the communal kitchen area for charging phones etc. We will provide lanterns for walking to and from the tents at night and for use inside the tents.
Ranch tours and a few chores will be a part of the weekend too!
**Deposit of $400 due to reserve a space. Balance due 2 weeks before retreat arrival. Deposit is non-refundable, but can be used towards a credit for Five Marys meats if cancelled at least 2 weeks prior to the retreat. Cancellations or transfers are accepted up to two weeks prior, after that date deposit becomes non-refundable but $200 of the balance can be used at for meats/shop credit - the other $200 is non-refundable.
