A New Year : Notes for 2026
Happy New Year!
I'm starting the new year with new way to share all the happenings around here, with a more personal journal style “Notes from the Ranch" each week. I hope you enjoy reading a little more about the day to day around here - it's not boring!
2025 was a big year for us. After putting our energy and efforts into building our ranching businesses for a decade - we finally built our family home on the ranch after 11 of years of just making it work. We moved in Sept 18 - also Francie's 18th birthday! The girls surprised me and decorated for Christmas early and we celebrated a big double-family Thanksgiving with 45 guests throughout the week. We loved it.
December 1 we loaded up three trucks, nine horses, two trailers, four daughters, two dogs and a goat… and make the trek to Wickenburg, Arizona for the girls and their horses to spend three months here riding and roping in the sunshine. Brian goes back and forth to keep running the ranch - and we have a fantastic team at home keeping things going (I'll do a little team introduction next email!) - and starting a new business here with an RV park, camp trailer rentals, horse boarding and rodeo roping facility. Someday maybe we'll decide NOT to “Go Big or Go Home” - but today is not that day : )
We took on this new project “Hidden Hacienda” for our family as we enter into the next phase of life with girls launching out on their own - and most of them likely to want to continue horses and roping. We hope it will continue to be a winter gathering place or business opportunity of their own in the field they love. But man, it's a LOT! We have somehow become the landing spot for lots of teenagers and their horses - so I'm feeding an army, but they are great kids and we are loving it. Oh the stories the girls will have to tell!
We continue to be really proud of the quality of meat we are raising in Siskiyou County and love that we have full control of the quality in every step of the process. The reviews continue to come in that once you know Five Marys meat - nothing else compares!
Speaking of which… this is the only time all year we will open our M5 Meat Club subscription boxes for new members!!
