Three years ago a Sunset magazine editor called me about doing a story on Five Marys for their upcoming spring issue. I was thrilled and it started a long road of interviews and recipe testing and planning and changing plans again and again (it’s quite a story!) but…

TODAY (January 2020) that article published with this insanely beautiful COVER and a gorgeous 14-page (!!!) spread and the sweetest photo of Maisie in a flower crown as the table of contents – made even more special because my good friend Erin @floretflower is featured in this issue too!!

I honestly can’t believe this is real.

It’s a dream come true to be featured in this iconic western lifestyle magazine – I’ll share the whole story and all its twists and turns (and my parents Sunset mag features when I was growing up – coming full circle!!) here, I can stop almost crying happy tears of joy and relief that this is finally out there in the world!

The photography shoot for the feature was on a beautiful May weekend, timed well for one of the most gorgeous seasons on the ranch and we hit perfect weather.

These wildflowers popped up all over the pasture area just below camp and we sent Maisie out with a basket to pick some for the dinner table when the flowers we had from a neighbor starting wilting a bit but were salvaged into a flower crown. Tom @sunsetphoto ran out and captured this photo of her when he saw her gathering flowers and it’s just stunning!

Oddly, those wildflowers have never really appeared there again in such abundance. It was serendipity to have them that May weekend and I’ll remember them forever with this shot!
