beeswax candles diy
Making your own candles is a fun, creative activity for the whole family. There are so many different kinds of candles to make, but one of our favorites are these beeswax taper candles. The taper candle makes the perfect addition to any table setting. Plus it is just fun to have homemade candles decorating your space.

Beeswax is a common candle wax that has been around for a long time. It is a natural byproduct of the beekeeping industry. This wax is produced by bees to store their honey and raise their broods. The honeycomb is removed and the beeswax comes from the fresh cappings. When beeswax burns it has the subtle, natural scent of honey.

Bees have to consume 6 - 8 pounds of honey in order to produce just 1 pound of wax.
Beeswax candles emit a light that is bright and warm-toned. It is more similar to the light spectrum of the sunlight than other candles.
It starts out clear, but gains color as honey, pollen, and propolis (bee glue) is added.
Beeswax is used in lotions and lip balms because it helps to lock in moisture.
This wax has a melting point of 150°F.
